Kitemu Water Project: Shallow Hand-Dug Wells Powering Mango Farming
At Kitemu, we are proud to support a practical and sustainable water solution that is transforming local mango farming: shallow hand-dug wells.
As part of the Kitemu Water Project, these wells tap into the shallow water table to provide consistent, year-round access to water—crucial for the health and productivity of mango orchards in this semi-urban agricultural hub.
Why Shallow Wells Are Ideal for Mango Farming
Mango trees thrive with deep, periodic watering—especially during fruit development. The wells at Kitemu are:
10 to 20 feet deep, tapping into dependable groundwater sources
Cost-efficient, making them accessible for smallholder farmers
Compatible with solar pumps and gravity-fed irrigation systems
Low-maintenance and long-lasting with proper construction
By integrating these wells with drip irrigation systems, farmers at Kitemu are now able to optimize water use, reduce waste, and improve fruit yield and quality.
Sustainable Water for Sustainable Harvests
Avantgarde Distributors provided technical support for well construction, pump installation, and irrigation design—ensuring each farmer has a complete water solution that meets their orchard’s needs.
This project reflects our commitment to empowering agriculture through smart, affordable water infrastructure.
